“Michele George has a unique combination of insight, technique, and the gift of play.” -- Marion Woodman Michele offers voice workshops in numerous formats, ranging from a two-hour session to a one- or two-day workshop to a three-day weekend, and more. She is a frequent leader at conferences relating to psychology and spirituality. The most prominent characteristic of Michele's workshops is play - play through games, songs and stories, in order for all participants to recognize in themselves a story-teller; to see through experience that the story is within, the voice is the teller, and the story must now be told. Her work invites participants to examine and acknowledge the right of each one of us to have our say in this world, to re-member the voice we were born with as a prime instrument of communication, to recognize that this voice has been denied and suppressed; and then to begin to explore the practical possibilities available to support the recognition and repair the self. The muscular structure of the torso, in operating as the protective system it is so often called upon to be, has guarded the individual from childhood on by contracting and refusing to allow the breath its full potential. Thus the voice, which travels with the breath, ends up placed high in the head, close to the brain, the mental function being the one guaranteed to serve us best in this societal structure based on achievement through intellectual acuity. We are asked to do rather than to be. As the physical structure is confined, the psychological repercussions must follow. So many have suffered the humility of being told they cannot sing, to shut up and mouth the words. Most people's experience is that they raise their voices only in anger, in rage, in uncontrolled and violent emotional situations. We have lost the right to call out loud for what we need and deserve. On the level of spirit, the Eastern traditions tell how order emerged from chaos when the cosmic sound OM was generated from the Void. The vibrations of sound are recognized universally as the beginning of creation, and mathematics and the new physics confirm this in startling and evocative ways. The laws of harmonics are consistent throughout nature, from the relationship between planetary orbits to the smallest quanta and quark. Following are examples of workshops Michele can offer:
